Elijah & Donovynne is a collection of portraits of my two close confidants. Elijah, an abandoned strip mall, is not an abandoned strip mall. Donovynne, a lake/forest area undergoing construction, is not a lake/forest area either.

Elijah and Donovynne are both very quiet. They don’t want to be bothered. They have very similar poised personalities. I admire their maternal patience with me. I understand them, and they understand me without saying a word. They allow me to photograph their spirit filled corpse and grant me permission to return on multiple occasions without warning. They allow me to step on them and stare at them. They don’t talk back either, and they are not judging me. When it isn’t just Elijah and me or Donovynne and me, we both feel an intrusion by the “other”, the model in the image. I believe she is jealous of them. So, she tries to become more like them. I’m trying to talk with my mute confidants, while she interrupts us. So I cut her out of the frame. We are both lonely without each other. This diary was created so that I may never forget them.
